Enjoy hours of absolute serenity under the sun

Explore Despotiko

Despotiko is an uninhabited island southwest of Antiparos opposite the settlement of Agios Georgios and a short distance from the islets of Tsimintiri and Strongylo. Its landscape is lunar, rocky and has small and large virgin beaches to enjoy hours of absolute serenity under the sun. The vast depth of the waters, at some points, gives them a particularly deep blue color.

The ancient name of Despotiko is Prepesinthos and it is a place of particular archaeological interest, where the continuous excavations carried out until today have brought to light an extensive sanctuary dedicated to the god Apollo.

Its heyday dates back to the 6th century. B.C., but, according to recent research, the earliest traces of worship date back to the 8th century. The discovery of the sanctuary radically changed the cult landscape of the Geometric and Archaic Cyclades, since it is the largest sanctuary after that of Delos.
